Tips For Finding the Right Web Page Review Site
There are a lot of review sites online. Some webmasters are not sure what to think about having their site reviewed, yet are afraid of being mulled to a pulp. Never fear. I am hear to give you the ins and outs.
If you are looking for a review site, simply do a search. Once you find some, investigate their style. Many review sites have several volunteer review staffers, so check their profile and reviews done, if available. Age is a factor in reviewing and so check the staff member’s website. This factor tends to be arguable because some webmasters are advanced at an early age, but this does not make them web- savvy. It is those who have been online for more than five years who have gone through the experience of seeing the internet revolutionize over constantly. The internet is always changing and expanding. With that, web design in both coding and design itself are always changing. Some become forgotten fads and others becomes models for what it proper on how to create a website. It is best to go with a review site that has some reviewers who have been around and are not afraid to give their constructive opinion.
It is essential to examine all points of the review site from their way of reviewing to the sites already reviewed. If several reviews sound bogus, then it is not credible. If it is not credible, move on. You are only going to get nitpicking and horrible advice.
A review is a critique. Not to be destructive, but to be helpful and pull out the bad stuff and suggest how to make it better, not leave it at that. If your site is truly cyber perfect, then do expect some gushing. You deserve it for your hard work. For shame those that criticize for a high score when their site beams with talent!!!
Scoring. It is not always necessary, yet for some reason status quo says that a score will help a person get a general idea of where their site stands according to the opinion of the reviewer. Elaborate scoring sections are not necessary. Generally a site should be scored upon the following: First Impression, Design, Content, Overall. Splash is optional and all review sites should allow the “About” section or “Me” section suffice as a splash as not every site has a nice entrance page to view resolution. A splash page though not highly recommended since there are people with higher resolutions than 800 x 600. It is a courtesy, yet not required and often more considered a novelty. I will have a different article emphasizing the points of a splash page as this article is a general synopsis for the review process.
Spelling is not a priority, but if you really botch it up, expect a point or two off. A reviewer should never linger long at all on the subject. Before submitting your site for review, make sure that all images are properly working. It is important to make sure that all parts of your site are properly functioning.
If you feel your site was graded unfairly, make sure to put that review up and tell your visitors about it. A bad review site needs to be spotted so others will not step into a place where they are going to be bashed without any helpful suggestions. Let me emphasize it again : HELPFUL suggestions!
You should never be told that they hate your layout and base the review on that. That is totally first impression. Your layout should be scored upon the technicalities: was it coded properly, all images functioning, clear, coordinating, no broken links. Whether division layers, frames, iframes, pop ups, triple backgrounds, etc, all should be graded according to their type. Not one to the other. It is not fair and it shows that the reviewer is inexperienced. A reviewer will be experienced with all levels of coding and be familiar with many types of layout design. Althought some bias is expected in a a review, it must be backed up with a valid point, otherwise the review is plain rubbish. A reviewer needs to work with what the website has and not about how it may not follow current fads. That is against reviewing. If a restaurant connosseuir and critic had written one article in a newspaper on an establishment with many negative points based on the fact it was because it was not the same style as their favorite restaurant, they would be discrediting themselves and lose their readers. It is the ability of a reviewer to be able to examine and work with what it there that makes them surpass all others. This is the type of reviewer and review site that is most desired for any webmaster. All others will fail to provide the necessary help as they are too close minded.
Lastly, although all review sites are free (well, except for linking back), you should not wait any more than two weeks for your review, unless the review site is held by one individual. If you are waiting for a review that long, which is enough time to change layouts, then do not link them. That means they need more staff. Of course, if the site is run by one individual and their reviews are highly sought out, then allowing one month to pass would suffice. Most of the review sites are free, so not much can be expected until the review is actually completed.
Remember to link back to reviews as a way of thanking them for their time. You are asking them to come to visit your site to do a free service, and should return the favor if they have been helpful.
