A Blogger’s Right?
I recently faced being told at work because of my previous blog that I was over-the-line. What happened is “someone” brought the information into the workplace and started to gossip about it. I never said anything about my blog to these people, especially about the previous posting. I even got in trouble. What gets me is one: my blogging is not at work, on duty, nor is libelous. I am within my First Amendment Rights to say what I did and to get in trouble for my blog was unreal.
I do not force people to come to my blog, not even on my MySpace page.
Take in for instance, if I said the same thing in the previous blog at a bar with friends and someone overhead it. Then, they brought that to work, then they should get in trouble, right? They are the ones bringing non-work topics that are inappropriate to work. It would not matter what is said at all.
Now, if I had said this at work, which I did not, then that would be a different story. After a bit of talking with my folks and some offtime hours with the family lawyer, I decided to check out ACLU which is the American Civil Liberties Union. From there, based on what I found, I went to the Illinois Department of Human Rights as this is a issue more suited to this area. I found a few things on rights, but not exactly about blogging, so I did more digging. I came upon EFF, the Electronic Frontier Foundation which has an indepth section about bloggers. Of course, I do not blog anonymously and never have, nor ever will. Under the section in “Blogging Without Getting Fired”, I believe number 5 suits some of my rights on How to Blog Safely. Furthermore, in their section of The Bloggers’ FAQ on Online Defamation Law under the question “What are some examples of libelous and non-libelous statements?” and the three FAQs after pretty much have made me a happy camper. None of what I blogged in the previous post were false, and my emphasized vernacular was merely opinion and the story behind it was not fallacious.
I have written the numbers to the three different offices as I am not sure which Mount Vernon falls over and will be calling them. When I was confronted at work, I informed them that I would possibly seek a lawyer, but I think IDHR might be able to handle the situation.
I know the post is a bit jumbled, but after spending 2 hours after 3AM, I am exhausted.
Pathetic with a capital P
A strange rant, but then again…
Well, after hanging low at work considering I have been on the big boss’s Radar aka Shit List, I finally am not talking to anyone, but those I truly trust and can call a friend. However, it also means I lost a few friends. Well, at least one of them was a friend, but the other was a work acquaintance. Unfortunately, because of their stubborn pride and ignorance, they decided to snub me, even removing me from their MySpace friend list. I think is it extremely hilarious as to the shallowness that I have discovered.
For anyone who knows, my regular job is receiving product at Walgreens. I have to use equipment. However, there are about 40 plus workers on the dock, and only so much equipment available. The girls who I have associated with are huge gossipers. Actually, they talk about 15, 20, 30, sometimes even 45 minutes out of the hour almost every or every other hour instead of working. What happened was that I asked the one girl if she was using equiment. Now, she was busy chattering away a millions of meaningless words a minute and did not seem to be at a stopping point. Considering that I had not noticed any other equipment available and this was the closest to where I was working, out of courtesy, I asked her if she was using the vehicle. She huffed back that she was and was about to talk. I told her that I did not see that she was using it nor seemed to be in the works to use it soon. She huffed once more that she was about to use it. I told her that if she is going to talk, then give up the truck (forklift) or if she was going to work, then work instead of talk.
I have no qualms about being blunt and I was in my right as it has been said by our department boss (different from big boss) that if anyone not using a vehicle needs to get off of it if it is needed. Now, I was not going to be mean about her talking, as I just wanted to get my rate and overall… work. I could have cared less. I mentioned the incident to a few others and was miffed about her attitude, evening mentioned that I would say something to the department boss. She later came back and said that I should just go tell the boss instead of tell other people. I just told her to take her own advice..which two other people agreed with me as she has a huge tendency to not only put blame on other people, but talk about people a ton. Yeah, big drama queen, I know!
So, because I am Nile and a big smartass… I told on her. I feel like a huge smug bastard and I can admittedly say: I am a sadistic bitch! I am usually a fairly nice person, but being the Virgo, and their inanity, I have no sympathy for such tedious trash. I grew up to cherish friends as I was a military brat. Moving was hard and making friends was a vicious cycle. I would make them, move, and eventually those faded away while I tried to make new friends. These girls have no idea what a real friend is and would rather bite and gossip and hate. I am kind of glad I stopped sitting with them over a month before this occurred.
Hey Roxie Moore and Lisa Meyers: Good riddance petty bitches… I would hate to see how you treat your real friends!!!
