Number of Comments Do Not Always Equal Success

I am sure that the title of my blog alone makes you wonder if I went off the deep end as it might not make sense. You would think someone with a lot of comments might be a success.

That is not always true.

There are some out there called “comment whores.” Yeah, that is a pretty blunt term, but they are the ones that are solely out to get comments for their own blog. They may not even get involved in their own comment streams, just wrack up the comments. For a kinder term, it is “feel good blogger.” It is like a way of self-gratification. Get a comment, you obviously got some type of attention, but really have no other involvement on your own site.

The problem in this situation that along the way, the conversation may have wracked up so many number of comments from so many different people, except the blogger. Not to say that the blogger is a had host, but the trick to not looking like a comment whore is to get involved with your comment streams. Think of your comment section as a forum. People can interact and reply to each other, thus carrying on the conversation.

This will allow you to connect better with your readers and show them the side other than your blog at face value. In a way, your comment system becomes its own social networking work! It is the relationship with your readers that matter the most.

How is your relationship with your readers?

This is also for connecting via social network handles.

I know a blogger who obsesses over comments. For some reason, she feels this is a sign of success, especially if it is done on the first day of the post. She does interact, so I wouldn't call her a comment whore; more like annoying. It's rather sickening actually. While I am looking to build my relationship with my readers on Go Shorty, I am going to conduct workshops and develop relationships with organizations and people in the community to help it grow. I am also going to educate my readers about Chicago history.

I know the feeling. Comment whore is such a strong term, but at the time, it was pretty much necessary to get my point across.

I know you are big on community, Marcie and I admire that. I wish there were more people like you.
