Yes it does! Guest blogs, can really spice up your site and allow your visitors learn more. Of course, it takes a lot of guts for a site owner to open their blog up to another person, but if the person that is guest posting is knowledgeable in their field, the post itself could prove an invaluable resource. It also takes a lot of courage for the guest blogger to write on another blog. Why? Well, because they are not the usual person dishing out the articles and are not always familiar with the readers.

Guest blogging, can be for both new faces and veterans in any niche community. Each person brings their own experiences to the table in a way the site owner has never fully touched or even considered.

This idea is nothing new in the blogging world. It is how places like Mashable and TechCrunch because so big.

Choosing a guest blogger is not simple. It takes some effort because some people are extremely busy. It takes reminding and being patient to work with the blogger. Remember, they are doing a favor for you to help your site, even if they might be a new face in the community. The way to approach is to open the floor by asking if the person could write a guest post on a certain topic. If you have their attention, you will ask them if they can finish their article within a decent time. Do not say 1 month. Two weeks should do. Some guest bloggers might ask how long you wish their post to be. Always aim between 200 to 500 words. This should not strain them too much, and if they have more to say later on the subject, you can invite them back to guest blog at a future time.

Have you guest blogged at another blog? Or do you have a site that you have invited guest bloggers?

Social Network Sites And Blogging Are Hurting the News Industry?

Come on, really? Well, it was enough to read this over several sites, including a recent WebProNews article named Do Facebook and Twitter Threaten or Complement the News Industry?. A lot of news syndications have handles online and I doubt they are hurting. In fact, the choice to have an internet handle, I am pretty sure it has been a great help. People are spending more time online than they did years ago, so of course, even big news stations want a piece of the attention. In fact, Nielsen Ratings published in December 2009 that users were spending over 5 Read More →

Usernames And Social Network Policies

According to TechCrunch’s recent article Facebook Snatches User’s Vanity URL And Sells It To Harman International, it is a prime example that your username is not totally yours. Lucky for the guy Harman Bajwa, that with TechCrunch’s help and enough responses, they released the vanity URL back to him. This is just one incident out of many others. Your username, if it holds anything of interest to a bigger company, could be pulled out from under you.
Now, just because Harman was able to, we all cannot get TechCrunch to stand in the corner. Kind of sucks for the regular Read More →

When Twitter Trending Topics Fail

Trending topics are something I like to look at on occasion, especially if the topics listed on Twitter are something that falls in to any of my interests. Of course, something I like to look for entertainment reasons. I am sure a lot of other people feel the same way.
However, I am finding there are a lot of people that just have no brains about what is trending. And example of this is the most recent trending topic fail labeled RIP Johnny Depp or just Johnny Depp. This could have been prevented if people did not give into the attention Read More →

I saw through my Twitter stream someone using Gowalla, and was curious to what it was all about. Gowalla (@gowalla on Twitter) is a site made for people to share where they are in the world. Might sound a bit like telling too much or a way for people to become a bit stalker-ish, but those on the go and use to being social, this is a way to allow people who are interested to know more about you.
You can share if you had a beer or shopped at places like the Navy Pier in Chicago, Illinois. Or if you Read More →

Google Chrome… fast???

I admire Google for coming out with their own browser. I really do. I went from being a Yahoo! Internet search gal, to Google search years ago. I even prefer Firefox over Internet Explorer. I honestly tried to like Google Chrome.
They said it was fast. It was kind of fast. They said it was great. It was kind of. BUT… I still use Firefox, and even Opera too. I just have no stomach for Google Chrome. The browser is not as fast, and in fact, the first time I launched it… I got the blue screen of death. That really Read More →

Google Might Pull Out Of China? So…?

So Google seems to be seriously looking into reasons why they should stay in or pull out of China. Whether it is the right thing for Google to pull out of China for business reasons as mentioned in TechCrunch, or for the greater good – the fact is that Google can do what they like.
Hacking happens all the time. Ten years ago, we were raving about Yahoo! getting hacked on New Year’s Eve. I remember that because I was online as it was happening and was in shock like the rest of the users on. I have nothing really against Read More →

Why Social Media Could Be For Everyone

Mashable published Why Social Media Isn’t for Everyone, which tells how some people might not want to turn to using social media marketing strategies.
HOGWASH! I am actually giggling about the word, but it is as close I can get to what I wanted to say… so please do not ask. I am trying to be nice.
The problem with Mashable’s paper thin article tells me that without doing research, they lost out…whether on their own business or for a company. A successful social media strategist will learn about their product and find ways to make sure all the questions Read More →
