SEO Is Not Dying

Optimizing your site is definitely a necessity, but overdoing it will hurt your site. All this talk on SEO dying is hogwash. If it were, then there would be no search engines. SEO is not dying.

The issue that some people are hurt over is the fact that they actually have to write great content AND engage with others out on the social networks. Come on, this should have been a no brainer a long time ago. If you have gone shopping, been a business owner of a store, or actually have worked in the retail or service industry, it takes engagement.

It works the same online. People could care less about who you are unless you show them that you care about what they want to know. This still applies even in the case that you are a blogger who makes money off of advertising, sponsored reviews, and such. You still have to connect with others, and share your articles on the social networks as well as others. Its a give and take relationship… I know, such a cliché, but it is true.

You want people to trust you, right? You want to build an authority in your niche? You want to make money, right? (At least for those reading this and are building a business with their site.)

Then you know what you need to do – get social! It is a necessary investment.

I would prefer to use this time for writing more articles, but I guess this is the way things go nowadays. On the other hand, I’m not afraid of being penalized by Google for over-optimization, as I think that only the users of black techniques will be affected by the update.

I think SEO will live as long as we need search engine. May be next 10 year, google is not the most popular search engine (like Yahoo did last century), but another search engine will show up, and we still need SEO for that.

In short term, I read that Google is going to punish websites that doing SEO too much. So I think white hat SEO is always better than black hat SEO.

For what it is worth, consistent new content is required for good ranking. Social networks provide good backlilnks, another essential, plus traffic.

I can vouch for genuine comments. They really help your standing with Google.

I for one hope that Google can stamp out the link farms that come up on many searches and leave those of us with real content alone. I saw one of my keywords lose ranking, and adding a keyword optimized article and syndicating it, did the trick.

I would suggest that legitimate SEO with good content still works and will continue to.

There are many SEO companies and advisers that are selling books, seminars, and other education programs. They often use techniques to try to raise the Google ranking of a website without providing better content on their site. Google doesn’t like this – when somebody searches for a topic, they want their search engine to return the website with the best content, not a website that uses tricks that make it seem more important than it really is.

  49. No seo is not dying, but your site/blog is if you don’t do it.! ;)

One of the things that can make or break your social media profile, is whether you are a giver or a taker.
By this I mean do you share others posts and sites or do you only share your own…

If you share others posts and sites, you will get the same thing back ten fold.

  50. What a rumor! It’s usual that many people want to underestimate SEO for some bad reasons. But, through that, SEO still alive and kicking. How can we live if we have no engine to optimize our sites. I think its kinda difficult.

  51. If anything the changes in the standards for websites and what Google is holding webmasters to enables SEO firms and individual professionals to charge more money and appear to the public at large as more legitimate. Spammy tactics and automated work is dying. Next will be poor quality outsourcing. Look out for Facebook to get in on the search engine business as well as Twitter. This will further their work. It is just growing and changing, not dying. Who knows, search engines may no longer be the power for a source of traffic, social media might end up being it. The term SEO may change completely.

  52. SEO is not dying, it’s growing up and evolving. Just like it has been for the past 15 years. Just another bump in the road.
