Twitter Twisted?

Posted by Nile | Posted in Blogging | Posted on 13-05-2009 | 3

After the recent “fix” by Twitter to make things go more smoothly, Twitter changed some of their stuff back. They wanted to change it to allow members to only see the replies from followers, but not from the regular. At first I thought this meant that twitter would eliminate the general site timeline. It was not.

As MG Siegler of TechCrunch describes it

“So basically, you can see when someone is replying to someone else but only when they’re not really replying to them.”

Of course, as I mentioned already, Twitter took a bit of time again this week to change some of the settings back, so it is not so bad. I am sure Twitter is trying to do things in the best interest, but I have to say that if the focus of this simple one function site gets any more difficult, it may not be very appealing anymore. Already I have noticed glitches (via my “suspension” which was deemed a cache problem when I refreshed my computer over and over) and that the site seems a little more loaded with the features added. Of course, with any script, the more tables and code you add to make more functions, the more the load.

My hope is that Twitter tries to not do too much more. The site is blossoming ‘as is’ already and if they wanted to put some text ads, I am sure no one would complain as long as they were on the sidebar of the page.

I should not complain, but I actually enjoy meeting the new people that are on my stream. Sometimes through my followerers, I find others who I can connect with too.

What do you think about this?

Just a Glitch?

Posted by Nile | Posted in Blogging | Posted on 13-05-2009 | 4

Well, only a few hours ago, I was able to get on Twitter. After the original report on Sunday evening had been resolved in favor of suspending me, and then replying to that, it came to be that I basically was experiencing some Twitter glitch. Kind of scary, especially when knowing I did not violate their policies.

I was told that it was my cache and that I had possibly been looking at someone else’s profile. The problem was is that it was my profile as I have actually never ventured upon someone’s account that had been suspended. Anyway, I am back on as my Twitter addictive self.

In the meantime, I believe I am going to whip up a tutorial on how to make my transparent vector bottle like the one I showcase in the main image of the layout here at Blondish.net. I really do need to get cracking on those tutorials. Also, I had quite a few reviews to post that I originally tackled over at Rev.iew.me. I am currently open for website reviews so if you have a website and want to be reviewed, feel free to apply anytime.

My Twitter Account Was Suspended?

Posted by Nile | Posted in Blogging | Posted on 11-05-2009 | 3

After I got back from watching the movies with my boyfriend, late Saturday evening, I was going to twitter and talk about the movies. Lo and behold, a blaring, account suspension was posted. I was shocked and confused why this was up. I do not use Twitter any differently than I did months ago when I was very active.

The reasons they list for people they flag and suspend are those that spam, impersonate others, mass creating user accounts, and more. However, as I recall, I have done nothing new in the past couple days since being able to finally access my computer from home. I use to post almost all day and evening. I am myself, so it is not an impersonation, and I re-tweet informative links, giving credit to the original person who posted the information.

I am quite confused. Has anyone had any issues like this with Twitter. It kind of sucks since I have been an avid promoter of Twitter and have written many encouraging blog posts about the site.

Thank Goodness!

After all of this mess, the telephone company finally put the pole for the telephone line up and is working on their part to restore the line. However, too bad for them…. I am getting cable internet. I decided to cancel my home phone because even dial-up or dsl would equal out to the cost of cable internet or even more.

I just cannot believe the lack of speed in how things like when that drunk guy hit the telephone pole and it broke. You would think they look after these things better.

So, after Thursday, I will be able to get on a bit more. I am still helping out with my folks.

On Thursday I have a website review that I will post since I completed it. I had to make a lot of notes and then put it together offline.

Too Many Bosses, Not Enough Helpers

Posted by Nile | Posted in Blogging | Posted on 22-04-2009 | 1

I am usually not one to rant. It has been months since the last time I have done this. Most of you know by my activities online, that one of the things I enjoy is anime, especially InuYasha. I took on extra help recently on one part of my InuYasha Fanfiction community, my drabble community at LiveJournal. When I mean help, I asked for particular things to be done, but the people involve decided to hop on and take over everything. I did not want that. I wanted to work in a team of people that could agree to do things. I did not get that. The layout messed with and other parts, and it was an argument. Of course, I would like certain things, but the point was missed. All I needed were two people, one to do announcements and one make graphics for that site. However, in return I got grief, backtalk, cussed at, and smeared, and things done to other parts of the site without asking or even a part of their original position.

When I would do something, it was like a push campaign. It was never enough and this was within 2 weeks. Of course it was active, but if people were joining just because they were friends with them and I was apparently stepping down (as they were falsely telling people), then that was the wrong reason to join. It should be active because the theme is something you can work with, not because of their affiliation with another person. That is something I have tried to make sure that is avoided and these gals thought that much of themselves. I have been blamed for being egotistical, but this stuff takes the cake. Who cares if they have won awards for their fanfics. Does it make them money? Does it give them national or international fame? The answer is no. It is just like the articles I write for people who believe gaining a ton of Twitter followers is the way to go.

It is merely entertainment, in the case of this particular incident and that concept was lost along the way. Like those bitter women at work who do nothing but complain about previous marriages gone awry.

So, I removed them from the position and they started a smear campaign. The one gal told people on her LiveJournal blog, that I threatened to remove her writing from my sites when I did not at all. I have not touched them nor will unless she decides to flame the website. It was extremely upsetting since I have had to limit my time online due to outside events, but catch up offline with other things. One thing that I expressed throughout the whole thing was that I was not stepping down and somehow this was presumed.

“Too many bosses in the kitchen and not enough helpers.”

My stepmother recalled that one for me, but cannot remember where or who originally said it, and it fit perfectly.

What I could not believe are the people so into drama and such… crap I had been in the fanfic world longer than those gals, and yet I am the bad guy every time.

I Am On DeviantArt

Posted by Nile | Posted in Blogging | Posted on 18-04-2009 | 2

I have been on DeviantArt for more than 4 years. I have been adding a lot of my fanart and original work lately. If you are a member there, perhaps we can exchange DA watch.

The latest I have put up are my original work for my novel, Shinju no Miko, which I will be re-doing the title to be, The Pearl Priestess. Although I draw the characters with an anime flair, it is not exactly intended for just anime purposes. It was for an illustration. I just happen to be in an anime phase at the moment. ;)

Anyway, hope to see you over there too!

More Stuff Soon to Be Revealed

Posted by Nile | Posted in Blogging | Posted on 13-04-2009 | 3

I am really happy to say that there are a few things that are soon to added to this site. In fact, here is a list:

  • 10+ emoticons
  • 10 more desktop wallpapers (including fanart)
  • sanrio pixel fanart available for download and use
  • anime fanart section
  • 10 vectors in PNG format will be available for download and use
  • more fanfics that I have written are to be posted
  • illustrations to my novel, Shinju no Miko (which is changing to The Pearl Priestess)
  • A few more tutorials

Some of this is already finished, but I have been keeping an agenda on what I want to put up. By the end of the week, I will be putting up banner ad spots, which will be $5 a month for now. Later on the price may change depending on site stats and demand. I am sorry for the delay on that as I know through email that you have been wondering when I would do this.

The Art of Blogging: Write Without Being A Megalomaniac

Posted by Nile | Posted in Blogging | Posted on 07-04-2009 | 1

Yes, another blog in The Art of Blogging series. This covers the subject that I see quite frequently when I visit and read other blogs. It is when the blogger says that nobody or everybody is doing something. For example:

“Nobody likes that girl. Everybody thinks that we are fun.”

These are both false statements. If it were nobody or everybody, then we probably would not have arguments or an opinion on an individual level. It would be like the Borg on Star Trek who are of a collective mind.

Sometimes when there are a handful of people that agree or disagree, it is to be called a few or you can mention the exact number. In serious topics that involve facts and statistics, the art of being a megalomaniac has no room or business to come into play. In fact, even a rant about you and your friends versus another person should not say “everybody” because that is false. Instead, “my friends” should have been used.

Besides blogging, this tip can be used in regular everyday conversation. It makes you less abrasive and more intelligent when you are not including everyone in your opinion. In including them, you are attaching their name and thoughts to your own, and frankly, that is a bit presumptuous. It is also close-minded. Of course, your friends mean the world to you and perhaps they agree, but in the end, when it comes down to it, not everything is “all or nothing.”
