WordPress Update: 2.8.3 Available!

Straight from the mouth of WordPress, version 2.8.3 is available. WordPress reports that there were some security issues. For me, I noticed an increase in spam and I have not had many issues with it before the 2.8 release.

WordPress urges users to either upgrade automatically or manually. I highly encourage you that if you find any further issues to visit the WordPress support forum so the developers are made aware of the issue. Already WordPress is gearing up toward 2.9 features, but in order to get there, those who use it are relied upon to help report anything that goes wrong.

Also, if you are having issues with a plugin, you can go to the forum and ask about them. A lot of the plugin developers have either issues a new update already or are in the process of making their plugins compatible with the most current versioin of WordPress. Remember, it is important to keep your WordPress up-to-date in order to keep it secure. A lot of people rely on ‘hardening’ their security with htaccess, but it is making sure that your version of WordPress is up-to-date that comes first. Of course, if you wish to harden your security, you can visit my tutorial How to Secure Your WordPress Blog. I remember back in WordCamp Chicago 2009 that a person asked Matt Mulleweg about his opinion of how to keep WordPress secure and he said the very thing I mentioned above.

Have you upgraded your WordPress? Have you made any suggestions toward version 2.9 features?

I’m looking forward to see what they got for us in 2.9.

It was either 2.8.1 or 2.8.2 when I started noticing that because I have comments in the moderate mode that I manually have to click edit each comment to either add the url that went missing or to approve the comment . Since approving the comments would not work. I hope that gets fixed by 2.9

it would be nice if more guys who made plugins would keep up to date with each wordpress version.

I do know that they are trying to merge WordPress with WordPress MU, but I believe that is tenatively scheduled for 3.0 version. I am just glad to see people care enough to keep on the project….a lot of people volunteer their time and effort towards each version.

  • Hi Nile, I’ve updated my WP this morning.

I’ve suggested that in 2.9 they make dofollow / nofollow options integrated with “insert a link” on posts. But this idea don’t seem to get many support. I post it here http://wordpress.org/extend/ideas/topic.php?id=2988

I manually write such attribute now and then. Having such option above will help.

    Cheers :D

I am not definitely sure, but there is a plugin for this. However, you can always type the nofollow in the links you do not want the no follow. This is a touchy subject for some people and personally I do not like the no follow.

The only place it is available to do such a thing is the links, I believe.

  • The release of Wordpress 2.8.3 was unexpected but looking at the no of bugs and error wordpress 2.8.1 and 2.8.2 had, It was much expected update. Though I updated Wordpress to 2.8.3 and I can still see few Errors in my dashboard
When Even I try to publish article from edit page option, it gives error.. Still waiting for wordpress forum to come up with the best solution..

Try backing up your blog, remove your current and start with a fresh install. Then re-install all of your plugins and then import your blog entries. Try that and see if things clear up.
