In this part of the Ask Nile Series, I answer “When Can You Be Considered a Full Time Blogger?”
This is certainly not an easy question. Becoming a full time blogger doesn’t happen over night. It takes quite a bit of time. And becoming a full time blogger can depend on how much money you need to make in order to do more than just survive on.
If you’re having aspirations of becoming a full time blogger, here’s some of the following you need to think about:
- House payment or apartment rental fee
- Insurance (car, home or apartment, health)
- Food cost
- Cost of daily necessities (gas for car, toiletries)
- Electric, water, and trash fees
If you’ve got children, factor that into what you need to make to become a full time blogger. This number should cover a regular job that you’ve been working. Your number may be different depending on your country, and your own ambitions. If you’re aiming for more, then you’re going to have to work that much harder to make it happen.
Once you know what you need to make, don’t quit your daytime job until you can safely save up and comfortably live off of what you make with blogging.
In the time you work towards becoming a full time blogger, you will probably be doing a lot of work. You will be trying to make money through reviews, brand ambassadorships, advertisements, affiliate marketing, paid to blog opportunities, and much more.
You will be spending a lot of time blogging and engaging with your readers and followers.
This post isn’t to deter you from becoming a full time blogger, but to instill the reality that it will be a lot of time and work to get there.
If you can make the money to live comfortably, then that’s when you can start to consider yourself as a full time blogger.
